Why is my computer overheating?

Computer overheating usually occurs due to a hardware issue, specifically when the processor lacks adequate cooling. These are the top reasons why your device might be overheating:
1. The CPU cooler is all dusty and can't keep the processor cool like it should.
2. The cooling fan for the processor has stopped working, so it can no longer remove heat from the heatsink.
3. The thermal paste between the CPU and the cooler has dried out, so it can't effectively transfer heat anymore.
4. If your computer is equipped with a water cooling system, a malfunctioning water pump will surely lead to your computer overheating.
5. Incorrectly installed cooling fans in a computer tower can disrupt the regular airflow and lead to overheating.
One Laptop Tech offers fast and affordable computer overheating repair service for PC or Mac computers in Lynnwood near the Alderwood Mall. We fix it quickly!

How we diagnose the problem of overheating?

  • We check inside the computer case to see if any of the fans are clogged with dust and make sure they're all working correctly.
  • When it comes to liquid cooling systems, we verify that the pump is functioning properly and that the liquid is circulating as it should within the cooler.
  • For custom-made PCs, we confirm that all cooling fans are correctly installed and the system has proper airflow inside the case.
  • When necessary, we take off the old dried-up thermal paste from the processor and swap it out with fresh high conductivity thermal paste.
  • Once we've completed all the required repairs, we put the computer through a stress test to ensure that the problem caused by heat has been fixed.

Your laptop might look like that inside!

Check out this Asus gaming laptop with the cooling module that is completely covered in dust and animal fur! It was getting so hot that the plastic bottom cover began to warp. The heatsink was completely clogged, which was causing limited airflow through the radiator. To fix the overheating issue, we had to clean out the cooling system, apply new thermal paste to the CPU and GPU chips, and replace one of the fans that was making a rattling noise (most likely due to the excessive heat).

Just a heads up, too much heat can actually harm your laptop's motherboard, leading to costly repairs. Make sure to regularly clean your computer to prevent any potential problems.
